The hard shell gives me great peace of mind when traveling, as it provides excellent impact protection for the JBL Flip 6. While I wouldn’t expect it to survive being crushed by a car, it’s more than enough to handle everyday bumps, drops, and travel-related stress. I also love the attention to detail with the added features. The external carrying handle is strong and comfortable, the shoulder strap is adjustable and detachable, and the carabiner clip adds even more versatility for those on the go. But if you’re planning to place it inside another bag, backpack, or suitcase, you’ll definitely feel the extra bulk. It’s not excessive or unreasonable, but it is noticeable. Realistically, there’s not much the manufacturer could do to reduce the weight without sacrificing the protection that makes this case so effective in the first place. A nice surprise is that the case has just enough interior room to fit the JBL Charge 5 with a silicone protective sleeve on it, which Amazon often recommends as a bundle. While it’s a tight fit and might not have been the original design intention, the case still zips up securely without straining. That added flexibility is a big plus for users who want both internal and external protection. All in all, this is a very well-thought-out and well-made case. I purchased this case specifically to give my expensive AirPods Max better protection than the standard case that comes with them. I also wanted something that could neatly hold a few essential accessories — namely, a Lightning cable, a charger, and a Lightning to audio jack adapter. This case simplifies things by offering that extra space without being overly bulky or difficult to carry. It’s much more convenient than juggling multiple items or cramming everything into a tight pouch. The added room is subtle, but it makes a meaningful difference in everyday use. The build quality is excellent — it feels durable and well-constructed, with a nice texture and finish that makes it feel premium. It does have a bit of extra weight in certain areas, but nothing that would deter me from using it regularly. Most importantly, it’s a perfect fit for the AirPods Max and offers exactly the level of protection I was looking for. It shields the headphones from drops, pressure, and scratches, which is great for travel or even just safe home storage. Overall, it feels like a well-thought-out upgrade over the original case. That said, there’s one small flaw that could easily go unnoticed until it drains your battery. The AirPods Max rely on internal magnets in the case to enter low-power mode, and while this case includes them, the leather between the magnets is so thin that they end up sticking to each other instead of aligning properly with the headphones. This prevents the sleep function from activating as it should, which causes the battery to drain significantly while stored. It’s frustrating to discover your AirPods are dead just when you need them. Fortunately, the fix is easy. I used a small rubber strap from an old FitBit-style watch band and cut a short segment to place between the two magnets. This tiny spacer keeps the magnets from sticking to each other while still allowing them to function correctly — triggering the power-down mode just as intended. It’s a clever workaround that anyone can do in minutes. With that adjustment in place, the case performs beautifully. I’m giving it four stars instead of five simply because this issue could be easily addressed in manufacturing. It’s a near-perfect case — practical, protective, and stylish — but just shy of flawless.
